Headboard 101

I want to make a headboard for our bed. We have a california king mattress and trying to find a headboard big enough is impossible. Our master bedroom is very narrow so we don't have a lot of room for an actual bed frame, so I'm taking on a new project. Or shall I say I'm "attempting". I found this awesome black and white damask fabric similar to the one in the picture that I want to use and I like the shape of the headboard below. So wish me luck and if you have any tips please share! I'll need all the help I can get. I'm a rookie at home improvements!

drooling over the fabric, good choice!! I know JCPenney, makes "Cornish Boards" that go over windows. They do a similar thing as you want to do with this headboard. Add a little padding and cover it right? I know if you get plywood and cut the shape you want for the headboard, then add batting for a little padding/cushion and would make the fabric lay nicer over the board. (staple gun would help :) ) and then cover the padded board with your gorgeous damnsk (sp?) Then once again to get it to stay on use a staple gun. If I remember right from when I worked at penney's, they have pictures and drawings of how to do it for a cornish board and books, maybe you could get some ideas of the best way to tackle it. In their custom decor section/and back wall of window department there are books for custom orders. Sorry about the novel. Hope it helps!
